Pioneer Sportsmen, Inc. Membership Requirements

Individuals interested in becoming Pioneer Sportsmen, Inc. (“Pioneer”) members are encouraged to attend a Pioneer Quarterly meeting. Quarterly meetings are held the first Thursday of each quarter at 7:00 p.m. (except October) at Pioneer. The October annual meeting starts at 6:00 p.m.  Annual membership renewals take place from 4 – 6 p.m. on this day.

Additionally, prospective members are required to perform the following prior to being considered for Pioneer membership:

1. Submit a completed Pioneer Membership Application. Use the online form which is the preferred method. Paper applications may be scanned and emailed to: vicepresident@pioneersportsmen.org or mailed to:  Pioneer Sportsmen, Inc., PO Box 403, Concord NH 03302. Pioneer Membership Application

2. Submit a recently completed (within 6 months) NH Department of Public Safety, or other state equivalent, criminal background check. A concealed carry license is not the equivalent of a current criminal background check. Criminal background checks can be obtained by mail or in person from the Criminal Records Unit at 33 Hazen Drive, Concord, NH 03305.   Criminal History Record Requests | NH State Police

3. Provide proof of recent attendance (within the past 5 years) and successful completion of a gun safety/gun handling course, such as NRA Basic Pistol or SIG Sauer Academy Handgun 101. (Archery Only members are exempt from this) The Pioneer website also lists a number of instructors who provide classes that can satisfy this requirement. The course must be a minimum duration of two hours and include range time. Active participation and classification in an NRA or IDPA shooting sport will satisfy this requirement. NH Fish and Game Hunters Safety course does not meet this requirement. This requirement is waived for current LEO's and active-duty military. If in doubt, please contact Vice President & CRSO Chip Mark.

4. Complete and pass Pioneer’s Range Rule or Archery test with a score of 90% or higher.  The test is open book.  The test with a passing score must be completed prior to taking the Orientation. Pioneer’s Range Rules and Test(s) can be found on Pioneer’s website.  Range Rules Test

5. Attend an Orientation that consists of the following:

a) Review of general firearm or archery safety rules, Pioneer's range rules, by-laws governing Pioneer, and instruction on the proper use of Pioneer’s facilities.

b) Firearm only - Walk through of all ranges (indoor and outdoor) and review of specific rules that apply to each range.

c) Firearm only - Safe gun handling qualification.

You must demonstrate the ability to safely handle your gun and shoot 10 rounds (with at least one reload) at a full-size IDPA target at 50 feet. If using a pistol, all 10 rounds must hit the target. You may use a rifle; however, it must be pistol cartridge or rim-fire only. If you are using a rifle, all 10 rounds must hit the "zero" deduction area of the IDPA target (8" circle in middle of target).

6. Pay membership dues and a one-time $25 orientation fee upon satisfactory completion of the new member orientation. Annual membership dues are $150, payable in October. New member dues will be prorated based upon the month that the new member orientation is completed.

New membership is probationary for one year. Membership in Pioneer is a privilege, revocable by the Board of Directors upon the new member’s failure to display good judgment, integrity, and good sportsmanship.

It is the responsibility of all Pioneer members, including associate members and their guests, to follow all applicable rules, regulations, and by-laws. Pioneer rules, regulations and by-laws are published on our website. Failure to comply with these may result in the immediate loss of membership privileges and forfeiture of any dues or fees paid.

Pioneer members are encouraged to attend as many monthly meetings as possible, get involved in the discipline of their choice, and participate in maintaining and/or improving the Club premises.
