Pioneer Sportsmen's Newsletter
Happy Holidays from Pioneer Sportsmen! While its getting cold and the berms are starting to freeze, the club is still a busy place. There are several events happening on the indoor range. Check out the calendar for more info on these exciting events including bullseye shooting, air rifle and air pistol. Archery is also enjoying their heated range all winter long so come on out and have some fun!
Meet our new President
Matthew Poulin was unanimously appointed by the board after speaking with him about his experience. He has served on several non-profit boards including the Knights of Columbus, Make-A-Wish Foundation, and the Concord YMCA. He is a long time shooter and served in the US Navy. Matt has a fresh outlook and is excited to continue on Tom's positive momentum for improving the club. You'll probably see Matt on the range with his two sons David and Thomas. Both are rifle shooters and hunters. Thomas is competing on Pioneer's youth action pistol team.
Former President Tom Wilczek is still very active in the club. He shifted gears at the beginning of November to focus on the indoor range improvements (check out the new floor coating!) and the ever growing bullseye and air pistol disciplines.

IDPA Discipline Chair
IDPA is a very active Discipline at Pioneer. It brings with it the very unique challenge of never doing the same thing twice. Walter Carlson and many others did a great job running the program this year. 2013 promises to be a new challenge as we are told there will be a new rule book and all Safety Officers must be re-trained. The Board formed a nomination committee after Walt announced he would not have time next year. The group reviewed several well qualified candidates for IDPA discipline chair.
We are proud to announce, Ken Lambert is our new chair! He is an expert or master level shooter in several divisions. Many times he earned his upgrades through match wins. He has competed in states up and down the east coast. He brings a lot of new ideas. He is positive that with our help, Pioneer will be the premier IDPA venue in New England! Those interested in IDPA and IDPA RO's should join the email lists ASAP so you won't miss important updates from Ken.
P-RAC Beta Class
The Board of Directors is listening to you. Members often asked, "how can I get access to the restricted areas". The first test class for "Pioneers Restricted Access Course" was completed last month. You can get more details and signup on the Pioneer website!
NH Sea Cadet Marksmanship Day
My most sincere thanks and appreciation to the club, and the individuals that helped with this event. It would not have happened without your support.
I volunteer with the United States Naval Sea Cadet Corps youth program. The Newport News Division based in Concord is for kids 11 - 18 years old that have an interest in the military without the service commitment (try before you buy kind of thing). The kids get to go to a boot camp, learn military protocols, marching and go to advanced training on a variety of skill sets of their choosing.
They also get to go shooting! We had 16 cadets and 3 officers for the day at Pioneer. We had a safety briefing in the clubhouse and then hit the ranges. We had enough incredible volunteer members to have multiple RO's at each stage. The cadets were able to try different handguns, the AK-47 and AR-15 platforms. We had one bay with WWII rifles and a history lesson from resident expert Mike Hummel. They also were able to learn the basics about the 12 ga shotgun
and got to try a scoped .308 bolt gun on the rifle bay. The icing on the cake was a chance to shoot Tom H's semi-auto Tommy Gun.
Some of these youngsters had never seen a firearm in person before never mind used one. Every cadet left with a new appreciation for firearms and a large smile at the end of the day. Thank you again.

Pioneer Sportsmen and the NH Bowmen will be having an archery shoot Saturday January 5th, at the indoor archery range as a benefit shoot in honor of Rex Parent. Many of you know Rex as the guy who led NH Bowmen for many many years, before he passed away. Unpack your favorite bow or your newly opened Christmas bow, bring some friends and make a special effort to get to this shoot.
Upcoming Archery League - Polish off your bows and plan to attend the Pioneer Archery League starting on Tues Jan 8th at 6pm. The league will run each Tuesday evening until the last Tuesday in March. We will shoot 20 yards at a variety of targets (NAA targets, NFAA targets, and animal targets). The price is $7 per week. You may come one week or every week. Space is limited to 24 archers. Please contact Phil Yeaton at 603-226-3461 to register or for more information.
The club recently purchased 20 new folding chairs to replace the old tattered and worn ones that were in the archery building. Please feel free to come by and check them out and visit with your fellow club members.
